ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Statement
“My work is focused on visceral responses and aesthetics in non-representational works, surrealism and anything in-between. Color, flow, balance and texture are subject matter. For me, creative breakthroughs occur with the right combination of passion, expression and evolution. In order to express my powerful passion for movement and depth, I explore working with vibrant colors and textures, demonstrating a high level of energy and movement. I primarily use acrylic and mix-media. While originally trained in realism, I now work exclusively with abstracts. I enjoy experimenting with many techniques and different ways to apply paint. I use whatever technique is necessary to bring the painting to life and continue to work and layer the paint until the final version of the painting emerges.”
—SHARON KLEIMAN
Biography
In 1976 Sharon attended Rhode Island School of Design destined for a career in textile design. However, her career was put on hold as she instead entered the corporate world. Thirty years passed before she even considered picking up a paint brush and returning to the art world. It took an abstract painting class offered at the Old School Square Creative School of the Arts in Delray Beach, FL where she currently resides to resurrect all the creativity that lay dormant inside of her all those years.
In September, 2012 Sharon brought her IPAD with all her abstract paintings to the Arts Arena Gallery in Delray Beach, asking if they would be interested in her work going up on the wall. Kathryn Carlyle and Cheryl Gibbs, 2 well known artists, juried her work on the spot and since there happened to be an artist coming off the wall, they agreed to showcase her work and Sharon had her first opening on September 21, 2012. In addition, Sharon takes pride in the inspiration she acquired from renowned abstract artist, Sally Cooper, who she considers her mentor and has taken her workshops at Old School Square.
This was the beginning of a journey bringing vibrant color and texture from an experimental process to an exciting and delightful force of passion. Sharon continues to explore various abstract techniques which emulate in her work. Her medium is mostly acrylic and other mixed medium. There is no limit to where she will go to create a unique piece of art.
Inspired by trips to art colonies in San Miguel de Allende where she took classes, Thailand, Santa Fe, NM, Asheville, NC, Charleston, SC, Caribbean and more to come. She continues to search for her voice in self expression, demonstrating a high level of energy and movement. Sharon’s work ‘Burst,’ ‘Fiery Storm’, and ‘His Final Warning’, have been on three covers of the American Journal of Critical Care.
In ‘Acrylicworks, Volume 6, ‘The Best Of Acrylic Painting’, the unparalleled competition showcase for outstanding acrylic artists with creative energy, edited by Jamie Markle, Chapter 4, Page 91 of ‘Abstractions’, Sharon’s piece ‘Burst’ was chosen to demonstrate her creative breakthroughs.
As an exhibiting artist of the Delray Art League, Lake Worth Art League, Boca Artist Guild, Women, In The Visual Arts, ArtServ, Broward Artist Guild, and the Coral Springs Artist Guild, Sharon as participated in numerous juried shows. For Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery, Sharon has earned 9th place in the painting category in the special merit awards in the abstract art exhibition and excellence in art in the special recognition category. In the Broward Art Guild small works exhibit, Sharon has received 3rd place for her ‘Galaxy’ collage and a Judge’s Recognition Award for ‘Pink Flower.’ In Women In the Visual Arts, Sharon received a Certificate of Judges Recognition for ‘Radar.’
The Gallery Ring, an online art gallery, awarded Sharon the ‘Sapphire Award’ for her piece “Ocean” in the ‘Water’ show for August 2019.
“OCEAN is a beautiful blast of commotion. Mighty and fearless colors pound and push against each other in an effort to gain control and territory in the inexorable and eternal battle of which they never tire. A predominant mass of white sports cuts and bruises as it rumbles relentlessly with its opponents in this stormy, aerial view loaded with textural, mangled and broken bits and pieces sent asunder. Flexing, dark patches creates depth, contrast and balance while surrounding blue areas, supply delicious adornment and buoyancy. The rough and decisive nature of the paint application demonstrates confidence and skill and is paramount for the successful outburst of this turbulent, muscular and exciting interpretation.” GALLERY RING
